Symposium venue

The symposium will be held in the Conference Hall of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 11 Pushkinskaya St., 185910 Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia

KEY THEMATIC AREAS OF THE SYMPOSIUM

A wide spectrum of scientific issues will be considered. Themes for this symposium will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Phylogeny, diversity and ecology of nematodes and other Ecdysozoa
  • Morphology, physiology and biochemistry of roundworms and Ecdysozoa
  • Communities of nematodes and other Ecdysozoa as bioindicators of change in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
  • Control measures for economically significant and quarantine species of parasitic nematodes
  • Host-parasite interactions

Oral presentation. Keynote lectures are 25 min, oral presentations 15 min, plus 5 min for discussions. Presentations must be downloaded to the session's PC at least 30 minutes before the session begins.

Poster. Please indicate the abstract title and name(s) of the author(s) at the top of the poster to make it easily identifiable. Each numbered poster will be allotted a space of 90x120 cm.

The symposium sessions will include oral and poster presentations, whose summaries will be published in the Russian Journal of Nematology, 2019.

The symposium agenda will include two workshops "Statistics in nematode community analysis" and "Prospects for nematological studies in the Arctic" to facilitate knowledge exchange on the new methods for investigating environmental changes using nematodes.

During the Symposium, a meeting of members of the Russian Society of Nematologists is scheduled to discuss current matters of relevance for RSN.

CULTURAL PROGRAM

The cultural program of the symposium includes acquaintance with Petrozavodsk (museums, exhibitions) and its surroundings, informal networking evening gatherings for colleagues, a banquet.

Excursions. On the days of the symposium, participants will be offered a tour of Petrozavodsk, excursions to attractions around the Republic of Karelia capital (Kivach strict nature reserve, Sampo Mountain, "Martial Waters" spa, Kizhi Open-air Museum, Sheltozero Ethnographic Museum, Ruskeala marble canyon, Girvas Paleovolcano, etc.).

After the symposium, 1-3 day excursions will be additionally offerred (Solovki, Valaam, White Sea and Onega rock art, etc.). «Pobeda» Airlines regularly flies from Moscow (Vnukovo Airport) to Petrozavodsk (Petrozavodsk Airport) and back. Thus, you can fly to Petrozavodsk with a transfer in Moscow from almost any city and country. Detailed information is presented on the website pobeda.aero (see attach file).

3. Bus service

You can get from Finland by bus from Joensuu and other cities. The bus from Joensuu to Petrozavodsk takes about 7 hours, the ticket price is 1500 rubles. The current information is presented on the Petrozavodsk transport website.
